7 Months

So happy after just waking up this morning!

Snoozing with my cap on - no big deal :-)

Owen is 7 months old today and one week into wearing his CranioCap! He is doing great with the cap. The first couple of naps and the first night were a little rough for Owen and Mike (mommy was at work) but now that he has gotten used to wearing it all of the time it really isn't a big deal. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

CranioCap

Favorite sleeping position - head all the way to the left :-)

CT Scan - Such a good baby! Didn't move a muscle.

Owen's cute little CranioCap.

Still a happy guy!

Owen has plagiocephaly (which means a flat spot on his head). Owen's flat spot is on the left side of his head not on the back. When Owen sleeps he usually has his head completely turned to the left. Turning his head so far to the left when he sleeps is most likely related to having torticollis (a tight muscle in his neck). Being breech is most likely the cause of the torticollis.

I noticed the flat side of his head when he was just two weeks old. I was reassured that he was to little to worry about a flat head and that it would round out as he started to move more. It didn't round out on its own so I asked about it at each doctor appointment and finally just before he was 6 months old we were referred to Gillette to see a Craniofacial Surgeon. Owen had a CT scan to assess the sutures in his head. The CT scan was normal! The sutures were not fused and all he needs is the CranioCap to fix the flat spot and physical therapy to loosen up his little neck.

Owen got his cap today. So far he doesn't really seem to mind. I think it is harder on me than it is on him. He will wear it 22 hours per day for the next four months. We will go in every two weeks to have the cap adjusted to his growing head and to have physical therapy. Mike and I also have to do stretches each day at home to help loosen his neck. I am sure the time will fly by and he will be cap free in no time!

Sitting

Sitting Up!

Tipped Over :-)

Owen can sit, on his own, for short periods of time. He still tips over every now and again but he is getting really strong!

Santa!

As you can tell Owen was very excited and happy to meet Santa. I am going to enjoy this picture because I am sure next years picture with Santa will have some tears.

Happy Monday!

Owen continues to be a Happy Little Guy! I guess I should say BIG Guy since at his 6 month check up he weighed 18 lbs. 14 oz. and was 28 inches long! It is about time we start shopping for a new car seat because he is going to out grow his very soon!

At first I don't think Owen knew if this was scary or funny. You can't see me but I am jumping up from behind the couch - Mike and I thought it was really funny!

Happy Thanksgiving

We had a low key Thanksgiving this year. I had to work so the boys just hung out at home. Mike and I had Thanksgiving dinner before I went to work and Owen had sweet potatoes. At first he wasn't really sure about them but after a couple bites he realized that he LOVES sweet potatoes. He would grab my hand and help the spoon right into his little mouth. It was really cute! We hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.

Let it SNOW

Yesterday we woke up to a very snowy backyard! Owen was fascinated by watching the snow fall. Mike decided that Owen needed to "play" in the snow since it was the first snow fall of the year. He actually looks like he liked it. I guess winter is here to stay since Eden Prairie got 11 inches in just one day!

Look at Me!

Owen is practicing very hard at learning how to sit. He is getting close but still tips over without support. I think he will be able to do it all by himself any day now. He is becoming such a big boy so quickly!

Yum!

Last week Owen officially started to eat solids (homemade rice cereal...Yum!). I don't know if I would quite call it eating though. He mostly gets some of the rice cereal in his mouth and then spits it back out onto his face or his bib. Looks like it is going to take a lot of practice!

Happy Halloween!

It was Owen's First Halloween and we had a fun day! Mike, Owen and I spent the day in Hastings. We hung out at Granny Nanny's and Grandpa Dave's house and even went trick-or-treating to a few houses. Thanks everyone for all of the special Halloween Treats!
